How to get there? |
| Camp Rio
Longa can be reached by scheduled flights from Johannesburg
or Windhoek on South African Airways, TAAG or Air Namibia into Luanda.
Guests can be collected by the lodge for a road transfer to the docking
site on the Rio Longa River. Alternatively a private charter can
be arranged with Wings over Africa from Windhoek to Porto Amboim
followed by a short road transfer to the docking site. |

| Health and VISA requirements |
| All visitors
to Angola need a visa to enter the country. In order to apply for a
visa the prospective visitors needs a “Letter
of Invite” written in Portuguese from the party to be visited
in Angola. Letters of invite will be supplied to all guests upon confirmation
of their booking. The visa application process takes approximately
4 weeks. When flying into Luanda,
visitors should provide proof of Yellow Fever inoculation by ways of
a valid “Yellow card”. Failure to present a “Yellow
Card” could result in entry being denied or visitors could be
liable to a fine of up to US$ 100. |

| Camp Rio Longa has
a tropical climate and due to its proximity to water, mosquitoes can
be a problem. Malaria precautions are advisable. Although the water
from the river is clean, it is only used for washing
and showers; bottled water is supplied for drinking. |

| Climate |
| Western Angola
has a moderate climate and although temperatures in summer rarely raises
above 35’C, the humidity is very high. During
the night temperatures normally cools down to a comfortable 20’C.
Winter temperatures are moderate with daytime temperatures around 25’C
dropping to about 12’C at night. The raining season normally
starts around February and will last until June. |

| What to take? |
Clothing and personal
items. It is recommended
to pack light cotton clothing, with a windbreaker for cool evenings
and mornings. Long sleeves and trousers are recommended after dark
to keep the mosquitoes at bay. Comfortable sandals make for easy
removing
when getting in and out of the boats and should be allowed to get wet.
A hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are essential items to pack as well
as mosquito repellent and personal medication.
Camera and plenty of film is a must. |

| Fishing Tackle. Fishing
Tackle at the lodge consists of surfcasting gear, 12-foot graphite
rods and some boat fishing gear. Although reels are available, we recommend
anglers to take their own
reels and a variety of lures for casting and trolling. Included in
the rates are the usage of any of the lodge tackle and supply of basic
terminal tackle like hooks, sinkers, leaders, etc. Proven lures will
be stocked at the lodge, but anglers will be expected to pay for lost
lures at cost. Light tackle and fly-fishing equipment are not supplied
and anglers should bring their own. |

| Insurance. Visitors are recommended to take out personal travel insurance
or check that their personal insurance allows for visits to Angola. |
| Money. For payments at the lodge and any purchases within Angola,
it is recommended to take along some US dollars in cash and in small
denominations. |
